Blood samples from the two men involved in a head-on collision on Louisiana Route 38 east of Kentwood have been sent to the state police crime lab. One driver involved died from his injuries. The surviving driver, 38, received treatment for moderate injuries at North Oaks Medical Center. Investigators plan to send results from the blood tests and other elements of the accident investigation to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney's Office.
According to the police report, the accident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on March 20. The 38-year-old man had been driving his 2014 GMC Sierra west on LA 38. The other vehicle, a 1996 Dodge pickup, had been eastbound in the other lane when the Sierra crossed the center line for reasons that have yet to be determined.
Investigators noted that the 59-year-old man behind the wheel of the Dodge tried to avoid the oncoming Sierra by swerving on to the right shoulder of the road. Even so, the Sierra struck the front of the Dodge truck. The Dodge driver was transported to a local hospital, but he died the next morning.
A person badly injured in a car or truck accident might choose to discuss the incident with a personal injury attorney. If a careless driver caused the wreck, then a lawsuit might succeed in recovering monetary damages. An attorney could examine the evidence for signs of negligence like texting while driving, intoxication or speeding. Compensation sought on behalf of the victim could include payment for medical bills, lost wages and other amounts.
