Larry A. Roach Jr.

Larry A. Roach Jr.

Lake Charles, Louisiana

Although he originally planned to become a doctor, Larry A. "Bee" Roach, Jr.'s desire to become an attorney was predestined by where and when he was born, Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1958 while his father was attending Law School.

Larry graduated with Honors from Barbe High School in 1976, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-Medicine from McNeese State University.

During his childhood and matriculation through high school and college, Larry found himself immersed in the legal profession while spending time at his father's law office, seeing his father zealously fight for justice in his representation of his clients, and earning the respect of his community and peers, all without having financial gain as his primary motivation. His father represented many clients without cost and never turned a client away based on his/her ability to pay. He was moved that his father's clients greatly appreciated his efforts on their behalf, thought of him as a friend and called him by his nickname, "Bully". After this experience, he decided he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and become an attorney.

Choosing to attend Southern University Law Center due to its diversity and quality of education, Larry graduated Magna Cum Laude ranking third in his class in 1992. Thereafter, he began his legal career with his father's law firm, Larry A. Roach, Inc., which was formed in 1959, now also known as Roach Law Firm, and is now an Owner/Senior Partner in the Firm, along with his brother, Barry A. Roach. Larry has spent his almost 24 years representing people from all walks of life in various legal matters, whether it be complex torts such as Deepwater Horizon death and property damage claims, class actions, death and serious injury cases, or general practice and helping clients who need representation without ability to pay. Larry has a very successful legal practice, is a well known and respected trial attorney in his area, and a member of various legal organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Louisiana Association for Justice, the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, receiving its President's Outstanding Service Award in 2001 and presently serving on its Executive Council, and the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity.

Although Larry was born in Baton Rouge, he was raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana and has strong ties with Southwest Louisiana and his community. Larry has served and financially supports various community organizations such as: the Kiwanis Club, whose mission is "serving the children of the world", holding the offices of President, President-Elect, Vice-President, and Treasurer, and received the Kiwanian of the Year Award for 1998-1999; organizations supporting his undergraduate alma matter, McNeese State University, such as the Alumni Board, Quarterback Club and Cowboy Club; and numerous other charitable organizations, especially those benefitting children.

Larry's hobbies include piloting his airplane, riding his motorcycles, and driving his sport and muscle cars.

Even though Larry loves being an attorney and his hobbies, he loves his family even more, and it is the most important thing in his life. Larry has been married to his best friend, loving and lovely wife, Leslie Richardson Roach for almost 35 years, and they have three wonderful children, Lauren, Larry III "Trey", and Linsey. Lauren has chosen a profession other than law. Trey will graduate from Southern University Law Center in Spring 2016, and will join the Roach Law Firm after graduation. Linsey is a senior at LSU and plans to attend Southern University Law Center and join the Roach Law Firm. Larry hopes to continue to practice law several more years with his brother and children, and then hopes to limit his practice and/or serve the public in another legal capacity.

Larry wanted to give something back to Southern University Law Center in appreciation of the opportunities afforded him by the legal education he received there. Larry was married to his wife, Leslie, and had two small children, Lauren and Trey, when he attended law school, and knows the financial hardships one faces in committing to do so. He learned what a laudable profession it is to be an attorney, by seeing his father honorably and zealously represent his clients whether being paid or not, while earning the respect of his community and peers, and being considered a friend by his clients. He learned about perseverance from his mother, Dorothy, who was paralyzed at the age of 32, has been in a wheelchair for 49 years, and during that time cared for and raised four children, graduated from college, and attended Law School at Southern University Law Center. It is with these experiences, lessons, motivation and great pride that Larry and his brother, Barry A. Roach, have created the Roach Family Financial Need Scholarships to honor their Father and Mother, and to financially help others achieve their goal of becoming an attorney.
