Hit-and-run driver gets 5 years for fatal crash

On June 20, a man who caused a fatal accident in Louisiana and then fled the scene was sentenced to five years behind bars. The accident occurred near Slidell on Nov. 3, and the 26-year-old Mississippi man pleaded guilty to negligent homicide and hit-and-run in May. A 26-year-old man from Alabama was killed in the accident.

Fatal car accident rates increased in 2015

With gas prices down and the economy improving, Louisiana motorists may be driving more than they have been in recent years. More people on the roads could be one of the reasons the numbers of U.S. traffic deaths and injuries went up last year. According to the National Safety Council, there was a significant increase in serious car accidents in the first part of 2015.
