Autobrake equipment reduces rear-end car accidents

A consumer shopping for a new vehicle in Louisiana might want to opt for one with front crash prevention and autobrake technologies. When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety studied police reports about rear-end crashes in 22 states between 2010 and 2014, it found a significant reduction in crashes and injuries among vehicles equipped with these safety features.

Traffic deaths were on the rise in 2015

Following years of steady declines in traffic fatalities in the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is estimating that deaths resulting from traffic collisions rose by 9.3 percent during the first nine months of 2015. The news is even worse for Louisiana residents, as the Southeast part of the country saw a 16 percent rise in traffic deaths, which was one of the highest regional increases.

The potential for self-driving cars

Louisiana residents may be interested in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's decision that the computer systems guiding self-driving vehicles can be considered drivers under federal law. The finding is being acknowledged as a significant step toward gaining approval for self-driving cars on the roads. Google's self-driving car does not require a human driver to operate.

Driver in Tracy Morgan accident has April court date

Louisiana fans of comedian Tracy Morgan may be interested in the news that the truck driver involved in the accident that seriously injured Morgan will go to court in April. Another comedian was killed in the accident in June 2014.The man was a driver for Wal-Mart at the time of the accident, and the company has paid an undisclosed settlement to Morgan. According to reports, the driver had been awake for more than 24 hours when the accident occurred.
